Building Site Tower Crane | |
Built: 2011 | A model of one of the ubiquitous cranes disfiguring the skyline of every city in the World. |
Based on Philip Webb's Model Plan 192, this Liebherr tower crane runs automatically, going through a sequence of hoisting, luffing and slewing controlled by the electro-mechanical sequence controller from my Hydraulic Lift. The boom slews through 360°. A flashing light on the top of the tower draws the eye upwards.
The 6' 6" long boom is mounted on a tower which can be varied in height from 5' to over 7' to suit the venue. All three electric motors are mounted in the boom, as on the prototype.
I build this in order not to be the only Meccanoman in the World never to have built a crane.
