 Midland Railway Five-Ton

Portable Crane

As published in the SMG Journal, 2013-14. 

This compact (1/16th scale) model of a man-powered, portable railway crane circa 1910, is straightforward to construct but includes a lot of accurate detail, including realistic underframes and running gear.

The crane has hand-operated, geared hoist and luffing, a sliding counterweight, and the model includes two wagons and a length of track.
