ModelPlan 201

Peter Matthews'

E94 German “CROCODILE” Locomotive

Based on the electric "Crocodile" or "Alligator" locomotive.  Originally built for Swiss Federal Railways from 1919 to 1927, they were developed for pulling heavy goods trains on the steep tracks of the Gotthardbahn from Lucerne to Chiasso, including the Gotthard Tunnel.  Crocodile locomotives were so called because of their long noses reminiscent of the snout of a crocodile.

The compact model runs on a Gauge 1 track and can be powered via either a third rail or an overhead catenary system.  It was designed by the late Pierre Marais of Johannesburg and the plan has been produced in his memory.

The wheels of the twin power bogies are driven via sprocket and chain from PDU motors, and detailed drawings of the sprung pantographs and catenary masts and rail are included.

The plan has 20 pages in total with prototype information, IsoMec diagrams and colour and other photographs.
